It is well known that a good diet has great benefits not only for the body, but also the mind. A poor diet can accelerate the fatigue and fatigue leads us to a sensitized anxious body. We must also pay attention to our eating schedules, because our body responds better to routines.

Actually, the basic problem with diet is, that most people do not have a good balance between acid and alkaline. On average, most have a very acidic diet, which is not good when you want to manage stress.

Acid foods are protein, nuts, grains and dairy products (except yogurt), plus alcohol, sugar and salt. Most fruits, vegetables and juices are alkaline. It is advisable to consult your particular case with a nutrition specialist, however, for most, dietary needs include a very high percentage of alkaline products.

Vitamins and minerals are also very important. Carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and spinach are excellent sources of vitamin A. Vitamin C can be obtained from citrus fruits, broccoli, peppers and tomatoes. For vitamin E, it is recommended to eat nuts and vegetable oils. As for B group vitamins, that are essential to strengthen the central nervous system, are found in brewer’s yeast, dairy, meat, grains, avocado, cabbage and green beans.

Minerals, such as potassium, magnesium and calcium are essential because they help to control the organic reaction of  the body when hormones related to stressful situations are released. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and meat are rich in potassium. Magnesium is found in vegetables and nuts, grains and seeds also contain it, but you have to eat them whole because magnesium is destroyed in the grinding process. Calcium is a mineral that is a must in any diet.

On the other hand, there are some foods it is desirable to regulate their consumption. Start by controlling any stimulating or alcoholic drinks, because such drinks are meant to stimulate the nervous system. Salt, sugar, fats and dairy products are also to be moderate, because, as we said before, are highly acidic foods.

Many times, depending on the particular case, it is recommended certain vitamin and mineral supplements, as anxiety is related to a great physical and mental exhaustion. However, it is important to seek the advice of a specialist.

As an extra advice, remember it is not only important what you eat but also how it is done. Try to book your meals at specific times, to set a routine. Avoid eating too fast and too much. Make several meals during the day. And do not forget to drink plenty of water and liquids.

We hope these tips will help you improve your overall health and control anxiety.
